约翰．斯特奇斯导演的西部动作片，故事并不新鲜，但节奏紧凑，动作场面刺激俐落，两男一女的三角关系也增强了本片的戏剧张力。威廉．霍尔登饰演南北战争时代的南军上尉罗珀，奉命看守一群叛变的同侪。为了警告他们不要逃亡，因此采用相当残忍的手段来对付捉到的逃犯。埃莉诺．帕克是南方来的间谍，表面上是参加堡垒指挥官女儿的婚礼，实际上却是要伺机帮助囚禁中的马殊上尉逃狱。她对罗珀采取色诱手段，成功救出马殊，但罗珀迅速追捕，跟他的情敌马殊作徒手肉博战之后将他制服。在重返堡垒途中，他们遇到印第安人拦腰截击，只好改变态度联手作战。

P L O T
A ruthless Union captain is renowned throughout his
prison fort as the toughest soldier in the business,
capable of capturing every escaped convict under his
supervision. However, when he falls in love with a
visiting woman some of the prisoners seize the
advantage and try to escape while he is in a more
"mellow" mood.
