法国哥特乐队Elend的作品用压抑的黑暗交响乐来形容是最好不过的了，虽然作曲方法类似古典音乐，但他们采用了不同的方式进行创作。他们对传统的古典音乐结构进行了大胆创新。宏大的交响乐布局和变化多端的唱咏调编排体现出他们登峰造极的编曲水平和音乐天分。 Elend在保留后浪漫派交响乐队演奏手法的同时，通过增加每个乐章的演奏乐器数量，并融入各种摩登的音乐元素比如氛围音乐，工业噪音，鞭挞金属等，营造出广阔的黑暗交响空间。另外，乐队主唱特有的音色充分体现在各唱咏部分中，从古典的合唱部分到无调和声部分，从叙事咏叹调再到不时出现的赫然尖叫声，再回到主音独唱部分，无不体现主唱那独一无二的嗓音。Elend的第1张专辑充满了绝望，第2张则表现了叛逆，最后一张却象征了死亡，最后一张专辑始终弥漫着死亡的气息。虽然整个乐队的风格自成立之初就基本固定了下来，但是就如同祭祀仪式有最黑暗的过程一样，Elend的这张 “The Umbersun / Au trefonds des Tenebres” 充满了黑色的绝望，是Elend最为黑暗的专辑！随着这张专辑的发行，黑暗的祭祀仪式终于完成了。
